What I do:
Mary Kay Ash founded Mary Kay Cosmetics in1963 and now we are in 40+ countries all around the world. We will be celebrating our 60th anniversary next year. Yes, women still host home parties, it’s not out of fashion, besides, who doesn’t want to earn products while having some girl-time with friends? I specialize in beautiful gifts for the holidays and special occasions throughout the year, making gift shopping easy.
I share Mary Kay Ash’s vision to enrich women’s lives. I do this in the form of complimentary facials, spa treatments, teaching them how to care for their skin, or learn new glamour looks. I also share this awesome opportunity with them that may enrich their own life or a life of another.
A great part of my business is I can take it anywhere I go. During the pandemic, businesses had to learn to pivot. Because of virtual tools like Zoom and Facebook, I can work with women all across the United States and hold virtual appointments with them. I am holding in-person ones with local customers.
What am I promoting: My Mary Kay business just fits my life! It’s a great way to grow and there is always something to reach for. Currently, I am in a contest to facial 100 women (who are not serviced by another Mary Kay consultant) by Thanksgiving. This includes virtual and in-person facials. Do you know someone out of state that would like to participate and be one of my 100? I will mail samples in a pampering package and meet with them virtually. Right now, is a great time get on my calendar to try the new fall products!
What I like most about doing business here: My business is a way of life, it’s a great way to meet people and I have met the most wonderful women in Sun City West, which many have become dear friends. Since we live in the desert, I teach my customers about the importance of hydrating their skin and wearing a moisturizer with broad spectrum sunscreen. I also love to share our anti-aging products with them. A lot laugh at the prospect of “anti-aging” and say it’s hopeless but after they try our skincare, they fall in love with it!

- Grew up in Illinois
- Moved to Sun City West from Wisconsin in July 2017
- Married to Steve (he plays on the Sun Cities Softball Club)
- Have two rescue lab-mixes
- Have a daughter who lives in Florida and a step-daughter who lives in Illinois
- Love to travel, the farthest I’ve traveled is New Zealand
- Fun fact: my dad lived to 100 years old
People who inspire me and how:
George D Powell, Sr – author, centurion, World War II vet, and my dad – he taught all seven of us kids to be independent and taught the value of volunteerism.
Mary Kay Ash – started her own business when she was 50 years old and by doing that, not only changed her and her family’s lives but changed lives of millions of women all around the world.
My guiding philosophy: I follow the Golden Rule: Treat others the way I wish to be treated.
My advice to today’s youth: The world is your oyster, don’t let anyone say you can’t do something because you are your own superhero!
