Mary Kay Ash founded Mary Kay Cosmetics in 1963 and now we are in 40+ countries all around the world. We will be celebrating our 60th anniversary next year. Yes, women still host home parties, it’s not out of fashion, besides, who doesn’t want to earn products while having some girl-time with friends? I specialize in beautiful gifts for the holidays and special occasions throughout the year, making gift shopping easy.

I share Mary Kay Ash’s vision to enrich women’s lives. I do this in the form of complimentary facials, spa treatments, teaching them how to care for their skin, or learning new glamour looks. I also share this awesome opportunity with the women in my life so that it may enrich their own life and through them, a life of another.

A great part of my business is that I can take it anywhere I go. During the pandemic, businesses had to learn to pivot and so because of virtual tools like Zoom and Facebook, I can now work with women all across the United States and hold virtual appointments with them while I still hold in-person ones with my local customers.

My Mary Kay business just fits my life! It’s a great way to grow and there is always something to reach for. My business is a way of life, it’s a great way to meet people and I have met the most wonderful women in Sun City West, which many have become dear friends. Since we live in the desert, I teach my customers about the importance of hydrating their skin and wearing a moisturizer with broad spectrum sunscreen. I also love to share our anti-aging products with them. A lot laugh at the prospect of “anti-aging” and say it’s hopeless but after they try our skincare, they fall in love with it! Currently, I am in a contest to facial 100 women (who are not serviced by another Mary Kay consultant) by Thanksgiving. This includes virtual and in-person facials. Do you know someone out of state that would like to participate and be one of my 100? I will mail them samples in a pampering package and meet with them virtually. Right now, is a great time get on my calendar to try the new fall products!

I grew up in Illinois and moved to Sun City West from Wisconsin in July of 2017. I am married to Steve, who plays on the Sun Cities Softball Club. I have two rescue lab-mixes, a daughter who live in Florida and a step-daughter who lives in Illinois. I love to travel and the farthest adventure I’ve been on has taken me to New Zealand.

My father, George D Powell, Sr., has always been an inspiration to me. He lived to be 100 years old and during that time was an author, centurion, World War II vet and most of my dad. He taught me and my six siblings to be independent and the value of volunteerism.

I always try to follow the Golden Rule: Treat others the way I wish to be treated.
